Vaccination Schedule India 2026
FVRCP · Rabies · FeLV · Indoor vs Outdoor guidance — everything a responsible cat parent needs to know.
Educational purpose only. This guide is published for pet parent awareness. Always consult a registered veterinary practitioner for your cat's personalised vaccination and health plan.
Indoor Cats
Require full core FVRCP series + Rabies. Panleukopenia can enter on shoes — no cat is truly safe without core vaccines. FeLV optional if no outdoor contact.
Outdoor / Multi-Cat Cats
Require full core FVRCP + Rabies plus the FeLV (Feline Leukaemia Virus) lifestyle vaccine. Higher environmental exposure demands complete protection.
When to Start Your Kitten's Vaccinations
When kittens are born, they receive vital antibodies from their mother's milk (colostrum). However, this natural passive immunity is temporary and begins to fade rapidly within the first few weeks of life.
The optimal window to begin your kitten's vaccination schedule is between 6 to 8 weeks of age. Starting during this critical timeframe ensures that as maternal antibodies decline, the vaccines step in to "teach" the kitten's immune system how to defend itself.
After the initial dose, kittens require booster shots every 3–4 weeks until they are approximately 14–16 weeks old to build full, long-lasting immunity.
Standard Kitten Vaccination Schedule in India
| Kitten Age | Recommended Vaccine | Diseases Protected Against |
|---|---|---|
| 6 – 8 Weeks | FVRCP / Tricat Trio (1st Dose) | Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis (Herpesvirus), Calicivirus, Feline Panleukopenia (Feline Parvo) |
| 10 – 12 Weeks | FVRCP / Tricat Trio (Booster 1) | Strengthens core immunity against Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, and Panleukopenia |
| 12 – 14 Weeks | Anti-Rabies (1st Dose) | Initial Rabies protection — legally mandatory for all cats in India |
| 14 – 16 Weeks | FVRCP (Booster 2) + Optional FeLV | Final core booster — full immunity established. FeLV (Feline Leukaemia Virus) for outdoor/multi-cat homes |
| Annually | Adult Boosters (Core + Rabies) | Maintains lifelong immunity against all core feline diseases |
Indoor vs. outdoor lifestyle determines whether lifestyle vaccines (FeLV, Chlamydophila felis) are needed. Your vet will advise.

Core Feline Diseases — What You're Protecting Against
PFeline Panleukopenia (Feline Parvo)
Extremely contagious and highly fatal in unvaccinated kittens. Survives outdoors for months and can be brought indoors on clothing — no cat is safe without this vaccine.
HFeline Herpesvirus (Rhinotracheitis)
Causes severe upper respiratory infection, nasal discharge, sneezing, and eye damage. Once contracted, cats carry the virus for life with periodic flare-ups. Prevention is the only solution.
CCalicivirus
Causes painful oral ulcers, joint inflammation, respiratory disease, and in virulent strains, severe systemic illness. Spread through direct contact, shared food bowls, and grooming.
RRabies
100% fatal once symptoms appear. Even indoor cats can be exposed via bats or rodents entering the home. Vaccination is legally required in India and protects your family, not just your cat.
LFeline Leukaemia Virus (FeLV) — Lifestyle Vaccine
Suppresses the immune system and causes cancer. Spread through prolonged close contact, biting, grooming, shared litter boxes, and from mother to kitten. Recommended for all cats with outdoor access or multi-cat households.
The Risks of Skipping or Delaying Vaccinations
Incomplete or delayed vaccination leaves your kitten dangerously exposed to preventable, fatal diseases.
Fatal Panleukopenia
Feline Parvo has a very high mortality rate in unvaccinated kittens. It survives on surfaces for months and can enter any home — no kitten is safe without this vaccine.
Lifelong Respiratory Damage
Herpesvirus contracted early in life causes permanent viral latency — the cat becomes a carrier with recurring respiratory symptoms for life. The FVRCP vaccine prevents this.
Broken Immunity Chain
Missing a booster breaks the "immunisation chain." A single dose is insufficient — the immune system needs repeated exposure through the series to build durable memory.
Lifestyle Restrictions
Without an up-to-date vaccination record, your cat will be denied entry to boarding catteries, airlines, and commercial transport — limiting your and your cat's freedom.
